Theft from businesses in Chatham
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police responded to a theft from a from a business on St. Clair Street in Chatham.Â
Officers attended the area and located a woman passing the stolen items to a man.Â
Through investigation, police learned that the man was on conditions not to associate or communicate with the woman.Â
Officers also located several other stolen items in their possession from another business on St. Clair Street.Â
Both the man and woman were arrested.Â
The 42-year-old Chatham woman was charged with two counts of theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 along with facilitating a breach and failing to comply with her Probation Order.Â
She was released from custody with a future court date of August 23, 2022.Â
The 37-year-old Chatham man was charged with two counts of failure to comply with his undertaking and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.Â
He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Traffic stops lead to criminal charges
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Yesterday afternoon, police conducted a traffic stop on Base Line in Wallaceburg.Â
Through investigation, the officer noted several Highway Traffic Act offences being committed by the driver of the motorcycle.Â
When the officer attempted to serve the driver his tickets and inform him that the motorcycle would be towed from the scene, he became combative and swung at the officer, striking him with his motorcycle helmet.Â
The driver then fled on foot, but was taken into custody a short distance away.Â
The 61-year-old Wallaceburg man has been additionally charged with uttering threats, assault peace officer, resist arrest and assault peace officer with weapon.Â
He was released pending a future court date of September 22, 2022. Â
Two people arrested for public intoxication
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Last night, police responded to a disturbance on Selkirk Street in Chatham.Â
Upon arrival, officers located an intoxicated woman who was unable to care for herself.Â
The 29-year-old Chatham woman was arrested and transported to police headquarters.Â
She was charged with being intoxicated in a public place and released when sober.Â
Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Early this morning, police responded to the report of a suspicious person in the area of Fourth Street in Chatham.Â
Officers located the man who was intoxicated and unable to care for himself.Â
The 64-year-old Chatham man was arrested and transported to police headquarters.Â
He was charged with being intoxicated in a public place and released when sober.
