Severe thunderstorm warning ends, watch remains in place across Chatham-Kent

Update: EnvironmentĀ Canada ended the severe thunderstorm warning for Chatham-Kent at 5:36 p.m. There severe thunderstorm watch remains in place. Here are the details:

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain.

Hazards:
Torrential downpours.
Strong wind gusts up to 90 km/h.

Timing:
This afternoon into this evening.

Discussion:
Thunderstorms moving through southwestern Ontario may be capable of producing torrential downpours giving 50 mm or more and 90 km/h wind gusts.

Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

At 4:45 p.m. EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing very strong wind gusts and heavy rain.

This line of severe thunderstorms is located from Mitchell to 9 kilometres east of Melbourne to Dresden, moving east at 50 km/h.

Hazard: 90 km/h wind gusts and torrential rain.

Locations impacted include:
London, St. Thomas, Stratford, Rodney, Lucan, St. Marys, Melbourne, Mount Brydges, Komoka, Komoka Provincial Park, Ilderton, Shedden, Belmont and Dorchester.

Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes.
