Forget about walking a mile in my shoes

By Rev. Sharon Campbell Rayment – Special to the Sydenham Current

I recently read a sign that said, “Forget about walking a mile in my shoes. Try to spend a minute in my mind!”

I am a thinker (nonstop) and a wee bit of a worrier.

“Oh” you say, “but Sharon don’t you trust in God. You shouldn’t have any need to worry.”

Of course, I do!

When God called me, I took a leap of faith, though I had many doubts and questions, I began my journey in Ministry.

I did not attend Sunday school or church as a young adult.

So being called to Ministry was nothing I had ever expected.

My call came after the death of my mother which drew me to question, “Where is she now?”

“Is there really a God?” “A heaven?”

“Is the bible really God’s word?” “Why does it repeat so often?”

“Who really wrote it?”

“Why do the gospel stories say different things?”

“Does the “Old Testament” matter anymore?”

“What do words like sin, salvation, resurrection mean to us today?”

“Actually, what does a book over 2000 years matter or relate to me at all?”

I had tons of questions!

Some may feel this is blasphemous, but I believe God can handle my questions.

As a matter of fact, James 1:5 says, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” (NLT)

And when Jesus saw Thomas who doubted that he had risen as the other disciples testified to, he did not rebuke him. He helped him to understand by showing him the scars on his hands and feet.

Jesus gave him proof that he had risen. He was ok with his doubt and disbelief.

Do you have questions and doubts?

It’s ok! God can handle it.

If you have questions forward them to me at sharoncamray@gmail.com.

I’ll answer them here to the best of my ability.

And if I can’t or you have a different opinion, “Let’s Talk”!

Until next time remember that we are one. One Breath ~ One Heartbeat ~ One Song with All my Relations United as One.

Blessings friends, Rev. Sharon.
