Police K9 Helix helps bring suspect into custody

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On March 3, 2023, at 12:01 a.m., police responded to a disturbance on Patteson Avenue in Chatham.

Through investigation, police learned the man and his roommate engaged in a verbal argument that escalated when the man pushed his roommate several times and put her in a headlock before pushing her to the floor.

The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was charged and released with conditions including not attending the residence or communicating with his roommate.

He was also provided with a future court date.

Shortly after being released, the man called the roommate numerous times before returning to the apartment.

After knocking and yelling at the door, the man entered through a window and confronted his roommate again.

Once inside, the man damaged items belonging to the roommate.

Before police arrived, the man fled from the residence.

He was located a short time later by Police K9 Helix and taken into custody.

The 24-year-old Chatham was charged with assault causing bodily harm and two counts of assault from the initial incident.

He was additionally charged with breaking and entering and three counts of failing to comply with an undertaking for the second incident.

He was transported to police headquarter and held pending a bail hearing.
