Packed house for Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame dinner and banquet, Andy Fantuz the 2023 head speaker

The 2023 Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame dinner and banquet drew a packed house at the UAW Hall on Saturday, April 1.

Retired CFL football player Andy Fantuz of Chatham was the 41st annual event’s head speaker.

Dana Haggith caught up with the former Saskatchewan Roughrider, Hamilton Tiger-Cat, Western Mustang and McGregor Panther for an interview at the event.

The organizers of the event took some time to pay tribute to two Wallaceburg residents, who died in the past year, Gord Childs and Roger Marcolin.

Ian Dent was once again this year’s chairperson and organizer for the Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame committee.

“It was a great night,” Dent shared on social media.

– Linda Nethery and Rob Howlett, Coach of the Year Award

– Wallaceburg Minor Hockey Association for their work with the ‘Spirit of Community’ initiative, Builder of the Year

– Kate Martin, Ray Aarssen Memorial Scholarship

Cleo Perry, a long time teacher and soccer coach, was this year’s Honourary Chairperson.
