The Chatham-Kent Museum has announces a new bilingual exhibition on loan from the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum.
Beneath our feet, a league of superheroes are at work to make life on earth possible. Discover the secrets of soil science and conservation in Soil Superheroes, a new interactive exhibition at Chatham-Kent Museum.
Soil Superheroes will bring awareness to soil health and sustainability – a critical issue that affects food security, climate, health, and the overall quality of life of Canadians.
Soil Superheroes provides visitors with an underground perspective on the importance of our soil.
Come meet the star players – such as Captain Clay, The Mole, and Wonder Worm – and learn how their superpowers not only provide humans with food and medicine, but also clean the water we drink and protect our climate.
Through playful imagery and a colourful storyline, these small-but-mighty characters help us answer the questions, “What is soil, anyway? Why is it so important?”
They also remind us that human activities – from farming practices to what we buy, reuse, and recycle – affect soil health around the world.
Soil Superheroes will run May 17 to September 10, 2023.
The Chatham-Kent Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday 11:00 am – 4:00 pm with extended hours to 7:00 pm on Thursdays.
Admission is by donation.
Soil Superheroes was developed by the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, part of Ingenium – Canada’s Museums of Science and Innovation, in partnership with a league of industry and soil knowledge experts: Fertilizer Canada, Canadian Seed Growers Association, CN, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Glacier FarmMedia, Soil Conservation Council of Canada, Nutrients for Life, Farm Credit Canada, and Natural Resources Canada.
The exhibition was also developed with the help of the Ingenium Foundation and its generous supporters who contributed to this project; The McLean Foundation and TD Friends of the Environment Foundation.
The Canadian Commission for UNESCO has also provided a patronage letter for this initiative in recognition of the links to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
