‘I Am Woman’ event being held March 8-9 in Chatham

Zonta, SheLeads, and The Armoury Special Events are thrilled to announce their collaboration in celebration of International Women’s Day weekend, the I Am Woman event will take place on Friday, March 8, and Saturday, March 9, 2024 in Chatham.

The festivities will not only honour the spirit of International Women’s Day but will also shine a spotlight on the wealth of incredible local women-identifying folks who will be involved and showcased throughout the weekend.

The celebration kicks off with a women’s march, organized by Zonta, on Friday, March 8th, at 4:30 PM.

Participants are encouraged to don the color purple, craft signs, wield pom poms and meet at Sweet C’s on King St. in Chatham. This inclusive demonstration welcomes all individuals to join in the celebration of women’s achievements and empowerment.

Following the march, the celebration continues at the Armoury, where doors will open at 5:00 PM.

Attendees will be treated to an array of activities, including interactive booths, food for purchase from Taste by Tiff, uplifting beats spun by local DJ Courtney Wells, a meditation and sound bath facilitated by Lisa Uher, a dance tutorial led by Lisa Lester, and a lighthearted Lip Sync Battle.

Saturday’s women-owned and operated vendor expo, will run from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Armoury.

This expo serves as a platform for women-identifying entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services, fostering empowerment and community support.

Both the Friday evening celebration and Saturday’s expo at the Armoury require a minimum $5 donation at the door.

The proceeds from these donations will go towards supporting the Chatham-Kent Women’s Centre, a vital resource for women in our community.

Lisa Lester, event organizer from the Armoury Special Events said, “We are thrilled to join forces with SheLeads and Zonta to celebrate International Women’s Day.

This collaboration represents our collective commitment to empowering women in our community and supporting the essential work of the Chatham-Kent Women’s Centre.

Throughout the weekend, we will be showcasing the incredible talent and contributions of local women, highlighting their achievements while inspiring others; and we’re going to have a lot of fun doing it!”
