Update – OPP officials allege: The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Elgin County Detachment have located the firearm, previously reported missing, near the property during an evidence search.
On February 16, 2024, at approximately 8 a.m., members of the Elgin County OPP and the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a break and enter at an address on Talbot Line, Municipality of West Elgin.
The owner of the property had discovered damage to a door of an outbuilding and while surveying the area, was confronted by an individual trespassing on the property.
The individual fled the area on foot prior to police arrival.
An extensive search of the property and surrounding area was conducted with the assistance of West Region OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) and Canine Unit.
The individual has not been located and is still outstanding.
The individual is described as:
– White male
– 20-years-old
– Slim build
– Wearing jogging pants and a reflective construction jacket or vest
No injuries were reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
The OPP reminds all members of the public to be aware of personal safety at all times.
Anyone who may know the whereabouts of the individual or who may come in contact with the individual should not approach them. Instead, contact the police as soon as possible by calling 9-1-1.
