Tornado reported near Pain Court, Northern Tornadoes Project investigating

The Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP), from the University of Western Ontario, is investigating after a tornado was reported near Pain Court on Thursday, June 20, 2024.

“Witnesses captured video and photos of landspout tornado near Bagnall (southwest of Pain Court),” NTP officials say.

“No damage has been reported. An NTP survey team has been deployed to investigate. Satellite imagery review is pending. A nearby funnel cloud was also reported, though there was no evidence of vortex contact with the surface.”

NTP officials say the time of the potential tornado was 2:45 p.m. and their final classification has been completed

NTP officials added the preliminary rating is pending.

Environment Canada had issued a severe thunderstorm warning in Chatham-Kent on Thursday afternoon.

NTP was founded at Western University in 2017 with the support of social impact fund ImpactWX.

It aims to better detect tornado occurrence throughout Canada, improve severe and extreme weather understanding and prediction, mitigate against harm to people and property, and investigate future implications due to climate change.
