Shirley Phair

Shirley Phair (Catt), a resident of Dawn Valley, passed away peacefully at her home with her loving family by her side on August 22, 2024. She had just celebrated her 68th birthday on August 10th. Shirley fought a valiant battle against cancer since 2014, when she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. She braved countless treatments for 10 years, then was devastatingly diagnosed with a second form of cancer (melanoma) in February of 2023. Throughout her medical journey she amazed us with her inner strength, tenacity and her constant kindness and compassion toward others, which she demonstrated right to the very end.

Shirley was born in Sarnia, daughter of the late Reginald and Rena (Minielly) Catt, and spent her childhood on the family farm in Warwick Township. Beloved wife and best friend of Bill Phair. Loving mother of Jennifer Wallace (Dan) and Jason Phair (Valerie). Sadly, Shirley was predeceased by her son, Justin Phair, who passed away in a tragic car accident in 2002. Shirley was partner, with Bill, in Phair Systems as well as their family farm. She had a tremendous work ethic and was an outstanding mother and grandmother; and thoroughly enjoyed her yard and gardens.

She will be sadly missed by her precious grandchildren Alex, Charlotte, Emma, Olivia, Oliver, Liam, and Ava. She will also be missed by her sisters Anne Jenkins, Joan Cameron, Helen Thomas; brothers Stan Catt (Trudy) and
Wayne Catt (Joan); sister-in-law Luanne Phair; and brother-in-law Vince Smoluk. Shirley was predeceased by her sister Marion Smoluk and by her bothers-in-law Bill Jenkins and Allan Cameron. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, close friends and her church family at Dawn Valley. She was very involved in every aspect of church worship, teaching Sunday school for at least 40 years. She loved to interact with her young Sunday school students and would beam with pride as she watched them perform at Christmas concerts and other special events.

The Phair family will receive family and friends at the Badder Funeral Home & Reception Centre, 679 North St. Dresden, on Tuesday August 27th from 2pm – 4pm and 6pm – 8pm. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 28th at 1pm. Interment thereafter in Dresden Cemetery, with a reception to follow at the Ken Houston Memorial Agricultural Centre.

Shirley’s family would like to thank all those who supported her in her journey. If desired, donations to Dawn Valley United Church, VON Sarnia-Lambton (Palliative Resources) or Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre London (formerly London Regional Cancer Program) would be appreciated. Online condolences and donations may be left at www.badderfuneralhome.com.
