Kicking procrastination to the curb

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

On this first Sunday of 2025 let’s talk a little bit about procrastination… next week!

Just kidding!

The beginning of a new year affords us the opportunity to get a fresh start, but sitting around waiting for something to happen often ends up being the case as we try to pull ourselves out from the rubble of fatigue from the recent holidays.

Webster’s Dictionary defines procrastination as “the act of delaying something that must be done, often because it is unpleasant or boring.”

Abraham Lincoln once said, “You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.”

Pablo Picasso was even more severe: “Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone.”

In the Book of Proverbs, King Solomon uses an agricultural metaphor to address the issue.

Here is what he says in Proverbs 20:4: “Those too lazy to plow in the right season will have no food at the harvest.”

So, what’s it going to be for you as you start 2025?

Is there a special project that you have in your sights?

Do you have a health or financial goal?

What about the special people in your life whom you hardly ever see?

Could reconnecting with some of them be on your radar this year?

Are you willing to die leaving those visits undone, to reference Picasso?

We are only five days in, but time is moving.

Let’s get cracking on those things which are important to us this year!
