Chatham-Kent Local Immigration Partnership and LivingCK will present the Building Bridges: Anti-Racism 101 workshop on February 4. The session, led by the Canadian Mental Health Association Toronto through its Opening Doors Project, will take place at Studio One in the Chatham Cultural Centre from 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The workshop offers an introduction to key concepts around racism and anti-racism, making it ideal for individuals familiar with multiculturalism but new to anti-racist frameworks. Participants will examine how racism operates in society, unpack various forms of discrimination, and explore strategies to challenge it.
Attendees can expect to gain insight into the history of racism and its ongoing impact, including the link between racism and health. The session will also address topics like racial trauma and micro-aggressions. Practical tools for advocating against racism and responding to discrimination will be shared.
The workshop aims to empower participants by helping them:
– Define terms such as racism, race, and micro-aggressions
– Recognize different levels and types of racism from a Canadian perspective
– Understand how discrimination manifests in society
– Learn practical strategies to address and challenge racism
This initiative encourages community members to reflect on their own perspectives and take actionable steps toward creating a more inclusive society.
