A Chatham-Kent Councillor is seeking clarity on winter sidewalk maintenance across the community.
South Kent Councillor Anthony Ceccacci entered a notice of motion about the issue at the February 10, 2025 Council meeting.
“Currently there are over 410 km of sidewalks within Chatham-Kent,” Ceccacci said in his motion.
“Winter control is a blend of services provided by the municipality and the expectations of homeowners regarding winter control salting services.”
Ceccacci is looking to direct administration to bring a business case to the 2026 budget update and include “current best practices employed by other municipalities” and the costs associated with altering the current service level.
Ceccacci’s motion is set to be on the agenda for the Monday, February 24, 2025 Council meeting.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Civic Centre in Chatham.
