Sydenham Field Naturalists rebrand as ‘NatureCK’

After four decades of environmental advocacy and education, the Sydenham Field Naturalists have rebranded as NatureCK, a name they say better reflects their regional commitment to conservation across Chatham-Kent.

While the group’s legal name will remain Sydenham Field Naturalists, the organization will now operate publicly as NatureCK. The new name is intended to signal a broader geographic focus and a deepened connection with communities throughout the municipality.

To commemorate both the rebrand and the organization’s 40th anniversary, a ceremonial exchange took place at an anniversary banquet held April 12.

Founding members presented the current NatureCK board with a full-sized, functional shovel signed by past presidents. The shovel, intended for future use in planting efforts, symbolizes the ongoing growth of the organization rooted in the work of its early members.

In turn, the board presented the founders with a Burr Oak sapling, a living tribute to the legacy of those who established the group.

“For four decades, our members have explored, protected, and advocated for the natural wonders of our region,” said the board in a joint statement. “Our new name allows us to grow with intention while staying grounded in our founding values.”

NatureCK plans to continue its work through public programming, citizen science projects, field trips, and community partnerships aimed at promoting environmental stewardship.

The rebrand also includes a new logo and updated website designed to reflect the group’s inclusive and forward-looking mission.

“Our name may be new, but our purpose remains unchanged,” said the board. “We are still the voice of nature in Chatham-Kent—committed to fostering curiosity, conservation, and community.”
