Theft and fraud charges laid after a wallet was stolen in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On May 6, at approximately 9:22 a.m., the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of theft and fraud involving a stolen wallet from a parked vehicle.

The victim, a 29-year-old male from Chatham, later discovered several unauthorized transactions on his financial accounts.

The investigation revealed the stolen cards had been used to make various purchases at local businesses.

Through further investigation, officers identified a suspect, a 48-year-old male from Chatham-Kent and laid multiple charges, including:

– Fraud Under $5,000 x2

– Fraudulent use of a Credit Card X2

– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

A warrant was issued for the suspect’s arrest.

On May 27, 2025, at approximately 10:35 a.m., officers conducted a person stop and located the suspect who was wanted on an outstanding warrant related to the prior incident.

The accused was arrested and transported to South West Detention Centre (SWDC) where he will remain in custody until his next court appearance scheduled for May 30, 2025.
