Rosalia ‘Roos’ de Bakker

Mrs. Roos (Kint) de Bakker, a resident of Wallaceburg, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at the Chatham-Kent Hospice, in Chatham, at the age of 88.

Roos was born in the Netherlands was the daughter of the late Alphonse and Maria (Dankaart) Kint.

Predeceased by her husband John of 55 years (2014) and her oldest grandson Jonathon (2022).

Loving mother of Mike (Dorothy), their children Tawna, Lydia, Eleena and Josiah; Frank (Tracy), their children Jessica, Amber and Zachary; Tracey (Mark), their children Jonathon, Myles, Brett and Renee; Audrey, her children Tanner, Josh, Alyssa and Brady; Brian (Lori), their children Christina, Ashley, Madison, Grace; and youngest daughter Karey.

Cherished and loved by 18 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

She was the 2nd youngest of 13 with the only surviving sibling being her brother Ward “Edward” and her sisters Corrie and Irene “Zus”.

Roos had a wonderful life and was very proud of her family.

She immigrated to Canada at the age of 22 in 1959 and married 15 days later in the town of Bothwell.

Roos and John moved to Wallaceburg in 1960 and John took a position as caretaker of Our Lady Help of Christians Church and of Merici High School.

Roos and the family picked tomatoes and cucumbers for local farmers in the beginning to help make ends meet.

She also worked for the Credit Union for several years before taking a position at Lapointe Fisher Nursing Home and later lead the pastoral care ministry at Fairfield Park.

She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League for over 65 years, was a teacher, a girl guide leader, was involved in the Victorious Ministry Through Christ and helped build the Women’s Cursillo movement.

She also volunteered for Canadian Food for Children and was still knitting baby blankets at every opportunity. She led prayer group for years, assisted in Life in the Spirit seminars, led funeral prayers and prayers for healing masses.

She also loved praying with the youth at their retreats.

Roos sponsored immigrants from several countries, was involved with the Unbound ministry, led pastoral ministries and palliative care for many years.

In summary, she was devoted to the service of God, relished in her role as mother, grandmother and great grandmother and was always confident that her prayers for others were worth every minute of her time.

Family and friends will be received at the Eric F. Nicholls Funeral Home Ltd. 639 Elgin St., Wallaceburg on Monday, June 16, 2025 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with prayers and Mananita beginning at 8pm.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Wallaceburg.

Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Wallaceburg.

As an expression of sympathy, donations to Canadian Food for Children, St. Vincent de Paul or Right to Life may be left at the funeral home.
