Walpole Island First Nation Urges Caution After Syringes Found in Community

Walpole Island First Nation is urging residents to remain alert and take proper safety precautions following recent reports of syringes being found at local beaches and in various areas throughout the community.

In a community notice issued this week, officials stressed the importance of safe disposal practices to protect both individuals and the environment. “Let’s work together to keep our community clean and safe,” the notice read.

Residents who come across a syringe are asked not to touch it with bare hands. Instead, they should use tongs or a grabber tool, place the item in a proper sharps container, and wash their hands thoroughly afterward.

Sharps containers are available at the Walpole Island Health Centre, which can also accept used containers for safe disposal. Community members can contact the Health Centre at 519-627-0765 to check availability or for further guidance.

The reminder comes as part of ongoing efforts to maintain public safety and raise awareness around the proper handling of hazardous materials.
