Woman charged after disturbance at Chatham fair

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: An 18-year-old Chatham woman is facing multiple charges after a disturbance during a local fair event in Chatham on Thursday night.

Members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to Tweedsmuir Avenue West at about 10:11 p.m. after receiving reports of a disturbance.

Police said two individuals became involved in a verbal altercation that escalated when one person allegedly spat on the other and chased them while holding an aerosol canister of dog repellent containing capsaicin.

Investigators also learned the accused was bound by a probation order prohibiting the possession of weapons.

As a result, the woman was arrested and charged with assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a probation order.

She was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters and held for bail.
