Knife seized, threats made in Sarnia

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: On June 21, 2025, at approximately 9:48 a.m. an officer was patrolling Exmouth Street near Copland Road when he observed a male walking on the sidewalk.

The officer recognized the male as having outstanding arrest warrants with both the Sarnia Police Service and the Anishinabek Police Service.

The officer approached the male and advised him that he was under arrest.

The male immediately became uncooperative, refused to stop, and clenched his fists while stating, “You’re not going to arrest me.” Fortunately the officer was able to quickly de-escalate the situation and take the male into custody without further incident.

A search of the male incident to arrest revealed a concealed but readily accessible knife in his possession. As the officer secured the knife, the male threatened him with death.

Further investigation revealed that the male was bound by a judicial release order (i.e. released following a bail hearing) from April 26, 2025, prohibiting him from possessing any weapons as defined by the Criminal Code (except for hunting or fishing purposes).

As a result of this incident, a 46-year-old-man of no fixed address was held for bail on the following charges:

– Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose – Criminal Code 88(1)

– Utter Threats to Cause Death – Criminal Code 264.1(1)(a)

– Fail to Comply with Judicial Release Order – Criminal Code 145(5)(a)
