Sarnia Police Service officials allege: On Tuesday June 24 at 2:09 a.m., police received a call for a truck spinning its tires and damaging the lawn of a religious institution located on Cobden Street in Sarnia.
Officers attended and observed the fresh tire marks in the grass to lead westbound on Cobden.
Further down the street, police located a truck matching the reported vehicle description.
The vehicle was observed to have fresh grass and mud on the tires and under the wheel wells.
Police spoke with the driver who displayed signs of intoxication by alcohol.
He was placed under arrest and later provided two breath samples more the double the limit (210 and 200 mgs of alcohol / 100ml of blood).
A 49-year-old Sarnia man has been charged with:
– Impaired Driving
– Over .08 contrary to the Criminal Code.
– Mischief Under $5000
Pursuant to the Highway Traffic Act, his vehicle has been administratively impounded for 7 days and licence suspended for 90 days.
Based on all available evidence, the SPS does not believe the religious institution was intentionally targeted in this incident.
Impaired driving is considered a crime in progress.
Operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs significantly reduces a driver’s reaction time, coordination, and judgment—endangering not only the driver but also passengers, other motorists, and pedestrians.
Impaired driving will lead to criminal charges, licence suspension, vehicle impoundment, and serious injury or death.
