P.A.W.R explains adoption process

We’ve received a few questions about how our adoption process works, so we wanted to take a moment to explain things in a bit more detail and share the how and why of adoptions here at PAWR!

For dogs, all adoptions start with an application. Our dedicated team carefully reviews each application and contacts the applicants who are the best fit for that specific dog. If you don’t hear back, please don’t take it personally – it doesn’t mean you aren’t a great pet owner, just that another application was a better match for that particular animal. Due to limited staff and high volumes of interest, we’re not able to follow up with every applicant who isn’t selected. We strongly encourage you to keep trying, as the right match might be just around the corner! We do not offer walk-in adoptions for our dogs, as many are in foster care and require ongoing behavioral support. These dogs may also be sensitive to unfamiliar environments or people, and we prioritize their comfort and well being through a more structured adoption process.

Due to the sheer volume of cats in our care at any time, our process differs from that of dogs but is equally as comprehensive. For cats, we offer both in person adoptions and an online option through our website. This system allows potential adopters to express interest and pay the adoption fee for a particular cat, but it’s important to know that this does not automatically guarantee an adoption. Our staff follows up with screening, and a pre-adoption discussion helps us get to know you and ensure it’s a good fit. We ask thoughtful and necessary questions to ensure we understand your home, lifestyle, and expectations. We’ve turned down adoptions in the past when necessary, always with the wellbeing of the animal in mind. The website simply helps us gauge interest and avoid overcrowding, but each adoption is still thoughtfully and individually considered.

At PAWR, we take the responsibility of finding the right homes for our animals seriously. Thank you for your patience, compassion, and for choosing to adopt!
