Leamington youth program gets boost from local orthodontist

A local orthodontic clinic is stepping up to support newcomer and local youth in Leamington.

Abraham Orthodontics has committed to a multi-year sponsorship of South Essex Community Council’s Newcomer Youth Program, housed at the Leamington Kinsmen Recreation Complex.

The after-school program provides a space for youth to socialize, get tutoring, and build leadership skills. While it focuses on newcomer youth, all young people are welcome to join.

“We are grateful for the sponsorship provided by Abraham Orthodontics. This will allow SECC to put additional funds into programming and assistance for the youth we serve,” said SECC executive director Carolyn Warkentin.

About 72 youth have taken part since the program launched in 2014. The room is also used by the United Way’s On Track to Success program for evening meetings.

Dr. Maxwell Abraham, a Leamington native, said the donation reflects the clinic’s broader commitment to education, health and confidence-building in local youth.

“Being from Leamington, utilizing the programs in the complex and even working as a lifeguard and swim instructor, we realize the importance of this facility in the comprehensive development of our local youth,” he said.
