Sarnia Police Service officials allege: A 37-year-old man has been charged after police say he tried to leave a Murphy Road store Monday night with unpaid merchandise.
Police say an officer was in the store on another matter around 9:42 p.m. when loss prevention staff pointed out a man placing items — including razor blades and shaving materials — into a large backpack.
The officer reportedly observed the man conceal more items before he paid for a few things in his cart but not the contents of the bag or other merchandise. Police say the man passed all pay points and attempted to leave before being arrested.
The value of the stolen goods was estimated at $246. Police say the man was bound by two probation orders and a bail condition that prohibited him from entering the store.
He is charged with theft under $5,000, failing to comply with a release order, and breaching probation. He was released after a bail hearing with conditions.
