Ontario commits $6M for Indigenous infrastructure projects

The Ontario government is investing $6 million in Indigenous community infrastructure through the Indigenous Community Capital Grants Program, the province announced Wednesday.

The program funds projects that support long-term economic growth, job creation and local prosperity in Indigenous communities and organizations. Applications for the latest intake are now open and will be accepted until Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. through Transfer Payment Ontario.

“Working in tandem with Indigenous communities, our government is supporting critical infrastructure projects that are important to building strong, prosperous communities,” Indigenous Affairs Minister Greg Rickford said in a statement.

The program has previously supported projects including a recreation centre in Webequie First Nation, a community and business centre in Anishinabe of Wauzhushk Onigum First Nation and a multi-use facility in Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug.

First launched in 1989 and re-launched in 2016, the Indigenous Community Capital Grants Program is part of Ontario’s commitment to advancing economic reconciliation and Indigenous-led development.

The province is also investing $3 million through the Capacity and Growth Fund to support Indigenous economic development, food security and wealth creation. In 2024-25, Ontario invested in 48 projects through the capital program and the Indigenous Economic Development Fund.
