CKHA team supports organ donor safety research

Staff at Chatham-Kent Health Alliance played a key role in advancing a research study focused on organ donor safety and transplant outcomes.

The study, known as CONCLUDE, examines the use of Abdominal Normothermic Regional Perfusion (A-NRP), a technique already widely used in Europe, which restores blood flow to abdominal organs after death to improve viability for transplant. The research is led by London Health Sciences Centre and University Health Network.

This summer, CKHA’s intensive care unit team went the extra mile to ensure a patient could participate in the study. Staff arranged early shifts, provided additional support, and worked to ensure the process ran smoothly despite transport challenges.

The Trillium Gift of Life Network praised the team, saying: “We faced some challenges securing transport for the patient… but [CKHA’s] persistence and dedication to the cause is what made it possible. The team at CKHA went above and beyond.”
