Chatham-Kent police issue 318 tickets during Operation Impact campaign

Local officers took part in the national “Operation Impact” campaign over the Thanksgiving weekend, focusing on improving road safety and preventing serious collisions.

The annual initiative, held October 10–13, aims to make Canada’s roads among the safest in the world by targeting behaviours that put drivers, passengers, and others at risk — including impaired, aggressive, and distracted driving, as well as seat belt violations.

The campaign was strategically timed over the busy holiday weekend, when more people are on the road and collisions are more frequent. Police said local enforcement efforts reflected the community’s ongoing commitment to reducing preventable deaths and injuries.

As part of the campaign, officers conducted several RIDE spot checks across Chatham-Kent, issuing a total of 318 tickets for various offences. Two drivers also received three-day licence suspensions after registering blood alcohol levels between 0.05 and 0.079.

Police said road safety continues to be a year-round priority.

“Road safety is literally in your hands, so please don’t let the impact of your decisions be a collision on our roads,” the Chatham-Kent Police Service said in a statement.
