Communities across the municipality will pause on Nov. 11 to honour Canada’s veterans with Remembrance Day parades and ceremonies.
In Wallaceburg, residents are invited to gather at the Wallaceburg Cenotaph at 10:55 a.m. for the community’s annual Remembrance Day ceremony. The service will include the laying of wreaths and the traditional Two Minutes of Silence at 11 a.m. All are welcome to attend, and participants are encouraged to arrive early and wear a poppy in remembrance.
Temporary road closures will be in place throughout the morning and early afternoon to accommodate the processions and services.
In Blenheim, the parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 185 on Catherine Street, travel through downtown, and end at St. Mary’s Hall for a service before returning to the legion.
Bothwell’s parade will start at 10:45 a.m. at Zone Township Central School and proceed to the Cenotaph on Main Street North, with closures in effect between Chestnut and Elm streets during the ceremony.
In Chatham, participants will leave Legion Branch 642 at 10 a.m., heading to the Cenotaph on Sixth Street for the service before returning. King Street West between Fifth and William streets, and Sixth Street between King and Simcoe Lane, will be closed during the event.
Dresden’s parade will set off from CK Fire Station 6 at 10 a.m. and make its way to the Queen Street Cenotaph. Queen Street West will be closed between Centre and St. George streets during the service.
Erieau’s parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. from Mariners Road and travel to the Veterans Memorial Garden for a wreath-laying ceremony before returning to the starting point.
In Merlin, the parade will start at 10 a.m. at Legion Branch 465 on Stanley Street, stop at the Kinsmen Park Cenotaph for a wreath service, and continue to the Merlin Community Hall for a ceremony before returning to the legion.
Ridgetown’s procession will leave Legion Branch 243 at 9:30 a.m., proceeding to the Cenotaph on Main Street East, with road closures in place between Church Street and Broadway Avenue during the service.
Tilbury’s parade will begin at 10 a.m. from Legion Branch 206 on Stewart Avenue, heading to the Canal Street East Cenotaph before returning. Queen Street South will be closed between Canal Street and Crawford Avenue during the ceremony.
Wheatley’s parade will also begin at 10 a.m. from the Wheatley United Church parking lot, travel to the Cenotaph on Talbot Road West for the service, and then return to the church.
Residents are encouraged to plan ahead for temporary traffic disruptions and to take part in their local ceremonies to honour those who served.
