Woman charged after stolen vehicle located in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 47-year-old Walpole Island woman is facing charges after a stolen vehicle was stopped on St. Clair Street late Saturday night.

A 75-year-old Wallaceburg man reported his vehicle stolen earlier on Nov. 15 from his Margaret Avenue home. Later that night, police spotted the vehicle travelling southbound on St. Clair Street with its lights off and running a red light.

Officers stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as a woman from Walpole Island. She was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. Police also learned she was driving with a suspended licence and added an additional charge of driving while under suspension.

She was taken to police headquarters and held for bail.
