Man charged after spitting inside police cruiser

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A Chatham-Kent man is facing a charge after an incident involving police on King Street West.

Police say officers responded at approximately 7:29 a.m. on Dec. 20, 2025, to a report of an unwanted individual in the area. A 46-year-old man from Chatham-Kent was spoken to after previously being asked to leave the location and refusing to comply.

While officers were dealing with the situation, police allege the man approached a police cruiser and spat inside the vehicle at an officer. He was arrested and charged with assaulting a peace officer, then transported to police headquarters. He was later released with conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 20, 2025.
