The nominated defencemen are Drew Doughty of London, Ont., Thomas Harley of Syracuse, N.Y., Cale Makar of Calgary, Josh Morrissey of Calgary, Colton Parayko of St. Albert, Alta., Travis Sanheim of Elkhorn, Man., Shea Theodore of Aldergrove, B.C., and Devon Toews of Abbotsford, B.C. The forward group features Macklin Celebrini of Vancouver, Anthony Cirelli of Woodbridge, Ont., Sidney Crosby of Cole Harbour, N.S., Brandon Hagel of Morinville, Alta., Bo Horvat of London, Ont., Nathan MacKinnon of Cole Harbour, Brad Marchand of Hammonds Plains, N.S., Mitch Marner of Thornhill, Ont., Connor McDavid of Newmarket, Ont., Brayden Point of Calgary, Sam Reinhart of West Vancouver, B.C., Mark Stone of Winnipeg, Nick Suzuki of London, Ont., and Tom Wilson of Toronto. All players are currently with National Hockey League clubs.

The athletes were selected by general manager Doug Armstrong of Sarnia, Ont., along with assistant general managers Julien BriseBois, Jim Nill and Don Sweeney, and director of player personnel Kyle Dubas, with input from player relations advisor Ryan Getzlaf, senior vice-president of high performance and hockey operations Scott Salmond, and head coach Jon Cooper. Hockey Canada president and chief executive officer Katherine Henderson also provided support as part of the executive committee preparing for the Games.

“We are excited to unveil the 25 athletes who have earned the opportunity to wear the Maple Leaf at the 2026 Olympics, as we believe we have assembled a highly skilled and deep roster that can compete for a gold medal as part of Team Canada in Italy,” Armstrong said. “It was a long and difficult process to finalize our roster, and I am proud of the tireless effort our management group has put in to select our team. We know our entire group is excited and grateful for the opportunity to represent our country, and we look forward to making all Canadians proud and hearing our fans cheer us on as we look to bring a gold medal back to Canada.”

Six players on the roster were nominated to the men’s Olympic team in June, including Crosby, MacKinnon, Makar, McDavid, Point and Reinhart, while 19 players were part of Canada’s 4 Nations Face-Off championship team in February. The Milano Cortina Games will mark the first Olympic appearance for all but Crosby and Doughty, who won back-to-back gold medals at Vancouver in 2010 and Sochi in 2014. Collectively, the players have captured 22 Stanley Cups, 10 gold medals at the IIHF World Junior Championship and eight gold medals at the IIHF World Championship.

Nineteen players on the roster have previously represented Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championship, while 20 have competed for Canada’s National Men’s Team at the IIHF World Championship.

“I am honoured to be selected to Canada’s men’s hockey team together with so many great players and people, and I am excited to again have the opportunity to represent Canada in February and compete for a gold medal,” Crosby said. “We know how much pride comes with wearing the Maple Leaf, and our team understands the passion that comes with Olympic hockey. We are grateful for the opportunity to compete with Team Canada at the Olympics.”

Team Canada has won 16 Olympic medals in men’s hockey, including nine gold, with the most recent Olympic tournament featuring NHL players taking place at Sochi in 2014, where Canada also claimed gold.

“We are proud of the 25 men’s hockey players who have been nominated to Team Canada, as we believe there is no greater honour in sport than representing your country at the Olympic Games, and we wish to congratulate the players and their families for this incredible achievement,” Henderson said. “We know this team of athletes will create lasting memories for Canadians across the country and around the world through their performance on the ice, but they will also represent Canada with a tremendous amount of pride off the ice as members of a larger Team Canada.”

Men’s hockey competition at Milano Cortina 2026 will run from Feb. 11 to 22, with games played at the Milano Rho Ice Hockey Arena and the Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena. Canada will open the tournament against Czechia on Feb. 12, followed by preliminary-round games against Switzerland on Feb. 13 and France on Feb. 15.

“Composed of exceptional athletes, the men’s Olympic hockey team embodies the excellence and legacy of Canadian hockey,” said Jennifer Heil, Team Canada’s Milano Cortina 2026 Chef de Mission. “I had the privilege of witnessing the extraordinary victory of Canada’s men’s hockey team at Vancouver 2010. I have no doubt that Canada is more than ready to proudly wear the maple leaf at Milano Cortina 2026, and to create more unforgettable moments that will surely bring our nation together with pride.”

All nominations remain subject to final approval by the Canadian Olympic Committee’s Team Selection Committee following the receipt of nominations from all national sport organizations.
