Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Chatham-Kent, warning that freezing rain is possible beginning Tuesday morning and ending by Tuesday afternoon.
Several hours of freezing rain are expected, with 1 to 2 millimetres of ice accretion or buildup possible. The freezing rain may at times be mixed with snow or ice pellets before changing over to rain as temperatures rise above the freezing mark.
Areas along the Lake Erie and Lake Ontario shorelines may see very little ice accumulation. However, roads and walkways elsewhere could become icy and slippery, with hazardous conditions that may be difficult to detect. Localized utility outages are also possible.
Motorists are encouraged to check road conditions before travelling. Updates are available through the Ministry of Transportation’s traveller information service at 511.
Environment Canada advises residents to continue monitoring weather alerts and forecasts as conditions may change. Reports of severe weather can be sent to ONstorm@ec.gc.ca or shared on social media using the hashtag #ONStorm.
