Sarnia Police Service officials allege: Police responded to an ankle bracelet tamper alarm shortly after 2 a.m. on Jan. 11, 2026, after receiving information that a male subject had allegedly been involved in a dispute at his residence that included an assault and theft. Officers learned the individual had cut off the monitoring device in violation of court-imposed conditions, and his whereabouts were initially unknown.
Later that morning, police received information that the suspect was operating a U-Haul pickup truck in the city. Patrol officers located the vehicle shortly before 9 a.m. in the area of London Road and Murphy Road. A coordinated traffic stop was initiated near London Road and Oxford Street, at which point the pickup attempted to flee and collided with a police cruiser.
Officers were able to contain the vehicle and its three occupants. The driver attempted to exit the pickup through a window to avoid arrest but was taken into custody with assistance from a police service dog. The second male occupant was also arrested without further incident. A female passenger was released unconditionally at the scene. Police reported minor damage to a cruiser and no significant injuries.
