Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Two Chatham women are facing charges following a reported theft at a retail store.
On Jan. 13, 2026, at approximately 8:46 p.m., Chatham-Kent police responded to a theft in progress at a store on St. Clair Street. A loss prevention officer reported observing two female suspects concealing merchandise inside the store.
Officers attended and located the suspects, identified as a 54-year-old woman and a 28-year-old woman, both from Chatham. Further investigation determined that multiple items had been concealed and removed from the store without payment. All merchandise was recovered and returned.
Both individuals were charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. The 54-year-old accused was held in custody for bail, while the 28-year-old was released with conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 23, 2026.
