Driver charged after two-vehicle collision in Sarnia

OPP officials allege: A driver is facing impaired driving charges following a two-vehicle collision in the City of Sarnia earlier this month. Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police say officers were called to the intersection of Modeland Road and Wellington Street shortly after 5 p.m. on Feb. 2, where one of the drivers failed to remain at the scene.

Police reported there were no injuries as a result of the collision. Following an investigation, a 48-year-old individual from Chippewas of the Thames First Nation was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and drugs, operating with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit, and failing to stop after an accident.

A 90-day administrative driver’s licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment were also imposed. The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia on March 16.

Lambton OPP said road safety remains a priority and officers will continue to enforce impaired driving laws. Police are reminding the public to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 1-888-310-1122.
