Sarnia Police Service officials allege: A 33-year-old Sarnia resident is facing multiple charges after being found unresponsive behind the wheel of a vehicle at a city intersection.
Police say a 911 call was received at approximately 4:18 p.m. on March 26, 2026, reporting a male slumped over the steering wheel at the intersection of Tashmoo Avenue and Huron Boulevard. A citizen had observed the vehicle driving erratically, including stopping at a traffic light for multiple light cycles.
Officers arrived at about 4:24 p.m. and observed a white pickup truck in the middle of the roadway in drive with its brake lights on. The doors were locked and the driver was not responsive.
Fearing a possible medical emergency, Sarnia Fire placed wheel chocks in front of the vehicle and prepared to break the rear driver’s side window to access the driver. After several strikes to the window, the driver awoke.
A subsequent interaction led police to believe the driver was impaired by an unknown substance. Further investigation revealed the driver was subject to two separate confirmed driving suspensions, including a prohibition stemming from a previous impaired driving conviction.
The accused was arrested and later released on a police undertaking. Charges include impaired operation, operation while prohibited, failing to comply with probation, driving under suspension and driving without a licence.
Police say the investigation is continuing and additional charges may be laid pending medical test results.
The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for 45 days.
