The Chatham-Kent Community Health Centres have unveiled a new strategic plan aimed at improving health and wellbeing for residents over the next five years.
The organization announced its 2026-2031 strategic plan will take effect April 1, 2026, following what it described as an extensive community engagement process involving more than 100 participants through focus groups, surveys, interviews and planning discussions.
The centres, which are non-profit, community-governed, multi-service health organizations, provide primary health care, health promotion and community development services, with a mandate to serve equity-deserving populations.
The plan outlines a continued focus on supporting individuals who are economically or socially disadvantaged, including those facing barriers related to race, language, culture and sexual orientation, as well as people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.
“CKCHC’s new Strategic Plan is essential to guiding us over these next five years as we work with our partners and the community to cultivate wellbeing together,” said Sherri Saunders, executive director of the Chatham-Kent Community Health Centres.
Officials said the engagement process reaffirmed four key priorities: connections, organizational vitality, equity and inclusivity, and service excellence. These priorities align with broader system goals set by the Chatham-Kent Ontario Health Team.
The organization also updated its mission, vision and values to reflect a renewed commitment to person-centred care and community wellbeing, emphasizing compassion, accountability, respect, equity and safety.
“CKCHC’s new Strategic Plan builds on the strengths of the organization while addressing areas for improvement with clear goals and objectives for the next five years,” said Tabitha Cook, board president of the organization.
The board of directors formally approved the strategic plan on Feb. 26, 2026.
The Chatham-Kent Community Health Centres operate sites in Chatham, Wallaceburg and Walpole Island First Nation, along with outreach services across the municipality. Programs are offered free of charge, with many available to both clients and the broader community.
The organization said the plan will guide its work as a local health system leader, with support from Ontario Health and the Ministry of Health.
