Man safely arrested after 12-hour standoff in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 30-year-old Chatham man is in custody following a lengthy police response that saw officers engage in crisis negotiations after he barricaded himself inside a residence.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service says officers attended a Sandy’s Street address on April 4, 2026, to arrest a wanted man. Upon arrival, the man barricaded himself inside the home, prompting police to contain the area.

Officers worked to de-escalate the situation through crisis negotiations in an effort to ensure the safety of the public, police and the individual involved.

After approximately 12 hours, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service, along with the Emergency Response Team, safely apprehended the man without incident.

Police thanked members of the public for their patience and cooperation during the incident.
