The Chatham-Kent Police Service is recognizing National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, taking place April 13 to 18, 2026, in honour of emergency communication professionals.
The week highlights the work of 911 communicators, who serve as the first point of contact when members of the public call for help. Police say these trained professionals play a critical role in emergency response by answering calls, assessing situations, providing life-saving instructions and dispatching police, fire and emergency medical services.
Officials say 911 communicators work in a fast-paced and demanding environment, often managing multiple calls at once while assisting individuals experiencing crisis, fear or confusion. Their ability to gather accurate information and coordinate resources in real time is essential to effective emergency response.
Throughout the week, the police service will share messages of appreciation and offer a behind-the-scenes look at the work of its 911 team through social media.
The service is also encouraging residents to recognize telecommunicators by following along online and sharing messages of support.
