A funeral was held Friday in Sarnia for Dane Lucas Nisbet, as family, friends and the wider community came together to mourn the 20-year-old and support his loved ones.
Nisbet died April 10, 2026, after a shooting at the campus bar at Lambton College.
In a media release issued on Friday, the Sarnia Police Service thanked residents and partner agencies for their support during the funeral procession.
“Today, our city came together to honour Dane Nisbet’s memory and to support his family and friends during such a difficult time,” police said. “It was our privilege to help ensure his funeral procession remained safe and uninterrupted, as loved ones accompanied him to his final resting place.”
Police also acknowledged the assistance of Sarnia Fire and Rescue and Lambton County EMS, adding, “We extend our appreciation to Sarnia Fire and Lambton County EMS for their assistance and thank our community for their patience and understanding.”

According to his obituary, Nisbet died April 10, 2026, at the age of 20. He is remembered as the beloved son of Tracy Bennett and Jason Nisbet, and a loving brother to Jaxon and Logan Nisbet. He is also survived by his grandparents Denny Bennett and Lynn Simpson, and Marilyn Spero, and was predeceased by his grandfather Bruce Nisbet.
“It is with shattered hearts that the family of Dane Lucas Nisbet announce their devastating loss,” the obituary reads.
The tribute describes Nisbet as outgoing and energetic, someone who was deeply devoted to his family, friends and his dog Benny. He had a passion for competition and sports, including hockey, lacrosse and golf, and was known for bringing energy and enthusiasm to those around him.
“Dane was loved by many because of his outgoing nature and endless energy,” the obituary states. “He wanted to be a part of everything his buddies were doing, and they didn’t even care to do it if he wasn’t coming.”
It adds, “The bullet that hit Dane’s chest pierced all our hearts. He will be remembered.”
Visitation was held Thursday at Smith Funeral Home’s London Line Chapel, with the funeral service taking place Friday morning at Temple Baptist Church in Sarnia. Interment followed at Lakeview Cemetery.
The family has asked that expressions of sympathy be made through donations to Ronald McDonald House Southwestern Ontario.
