Driver charged with stunt driving after Highway 401 stop

OPP officials allege: A driver is facing a stunt driving charge after being stopped on Highway 401 over the weekend, police say.

The Ontario Provincial Police said an officer with the Elgin detachment conducted a traffic stop Sunday at about 1:17 p.m. on the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent.

Police allege the vehicle was travelling 161 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone.

A 27-year-old from Mississauga has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with stunt driving.

The driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

Police are reminding the public to follow traffic laws and report dangerous driving.
