Ontario expands emergency response network with chamber partnership

The Ontario government is expanding its Ontario Corps emergency response network through a new partnership with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce aimed at strengthening communication with businesses during emergencies.

The partnership will allow the chamber to act as a conduit between the province and the business community, helping deliver timely information to affected regions during natural disasters and other emergencies.

“Ontario Chamber of Commerce has a vast network that represents over 60,000 members that are locally owned, Ontario businesses,” said Jill Dunlop, Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Response. “Becoming an Ontario Corps partner means we can collaborate to ensure urgent, timely communications reach businesses most impacted so we can act quickly and respond effectively during emergencies.”

Through the agreement, the chamber can be called on to share critical updates directly with business owners across its network of 60,000 members and 143 local chambers and service boards throughout the province.

Ontario Corps is designed as a provincewide network of trained volunteers, skilled professionals and partner organizations that can be mobilized quickly to assist communities impacted by emergencies. The program can deploy resources such as debris removal equipment, supplies, flood barriers and drones.

The province is also encouraging residents of all skill levels and professional backgrounds to volunteer with Ontario Corps. Volunteers receive training and are matched with partner organizations based on their skills, interests and availability.

“The Ontario Chamber of Commerce is proud to support Ontario Corps and partner with the province to strengthen emergency preparedness across Ontario. With a province-wide network of local chambers and businesses, we can help ensure timely, trusted information reaches workers, businesses, and communities when it matters most,” said Daniel Tisch, president and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber joins other Ontario Corps partners including the Ontario Road Builders’ Association, Labatt Breweries of Canada and Ontario Mine Rescue.

The program was deployed several times in 2025, including during a spring ice storm and summer wildland fire response.

The announcement comes during National Volunteer Week, running April 19 to 25, 2026, which recognizes and promotes volunteerism.

The province is also planning a new Emergency Preparedness and Response Headquarters that will serve as a 24-7 command centre equipped with modern technology to support Ontario Corps operations.
