A producer with roots in Chatham has received national recognition with his first Canadian Screen Award nomination.
Garrett VanDusen, now based in Vancouver, is nominated for Best TV Movie at the Canadian Screen Awards for his work on The 13th Wife: Escaping Polygamy, Part 1. The nomination is shared with fellow producer Darren Robson.
Presented by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television, the awards will take place in Toronto from May 27 to May 31, culminating in a national broadcast ceremony.
Produced for Lifetime and broadcast in Canada by Corus Entertainment, the film tells the story of a woman confronting her past within a violent cult after a massacre resurfaces her history.
VanDusen described the nomination as a meaningful milestone in his career.
“This nomination is deeply personal,” says VanDusen. “It represents not only the work and sacrifice behind this film, but the belief that where you come from should never limit where you can go. Chatham gave me my foundation, and everything I build is with the intention of creating opportunity for others who see themselves in this journey.”
VanDusen, an international producer with nearly two decades of experience, began his career as a production assistant and has since worked his way up through roles including line producer and production manager. His credits span major platforms and networks such as Paramount, Discovery+, BET and Crown Media.
Born and raised in Chatham, he has emphasized supporting underrepresented voices in the industry and creating opportunities for emerging talent.
The Canadian Screen Awards are widely regarded as the country’s top honour in film, television and digital media, recognizing both artistic achievement and cultural impact.
