Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Police say there is no indication of foul play following a fatal fire on King Street East.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service, in partnership with Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office, continues to investigate the incident.
“As a result of the evidence obtained through the investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office, the fire is believed to have originated within the temporary structure where the individual was located with no indication of arson,” police said.
“Information gathered through the investigation, including video surveillance from the area, does not reveal any foul play.”
Police said the deceased has been identified as a 66-year-old woman from Chatham.
“At the request of the family, the individual’s name will not be released at this time,” police said.
Chatham-Kent Police Service extended condolences to the family and loved ones.
“There is no ongoing risk to public safety. No further information is available at this time.”
