Electric bicycle operator charged with impaired driving

OPP officials allege: An individual is facing a charge after allegedly operating an electric bicycle while impaired in Plympton-Wyoming.

Members of the Lambton County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were conducting general patrol on April 24, 2026, just after 2 p.m., when they initiated a traffic stop in a parking lot on Oil Heritage Road, north of London Line.

Police said further testing was required as part of the investigation, with assistance provided by the Chatham-Kent Police Service.

A 52-year-old Sarnia resident is charged under the Criminal Code with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

A 90-day administrative driver’s licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment were issued.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia on May 28, 2026.

Police say they remain committed to removing impaired drivers from the road through enforcement and education, reminding motorists that no amount of alcohol or drugs is safe when driving. Suspected impaired driving can be reported to 1-888-310-1122 or 911 in an emergency.
