Jane O’Meara

Margaret Jane O’Meara (née Fisher), born in April of 1928, in London, Ontario, passed away peacefully at Chatham-Kent Hospice on May 5th, 2026 at the age of 98.

Jane was the beloved wife of John “Jack” O’Meara, with whom she shared many years of marriage, companionship, and adventure. The loving daughter of the late Murray and Florence (Sanderson) Fisher, and the daughter-in-law of the late Steve and Winnifred (O’Brien) O’Meara.

Predeceased by her daughter Pamela (Randy) Jacobs, Devoted mother to Patricia (Bill) Truesdale, and John (Barb) O’Meara.

Cherished grandmother to Dan Truesdale and Caitlyn (O’Meara) Gonyou (Jamie), and a proudest great-grandmother to Jackson, Lola, and Liam, all of whom brought her immense joy.

Jane was predeceased by her siblings Stewart (Evelyn), Paul (Rosie), Lucinda Isabella, and Ben (Eunice), and often spoke with comfort about being reunited with so many loved ones.

A longtime resident of Sombra Township, Jane and Jack spent many years delivering mail to the residents of Sombra, Port Lambton, and Wilkesport, becoming a familiar and friendly presence to many. Earlier in her life, she was also a proud photographer for the London Free Press, taking on the role during the war time years. Jane’s love of photography stayed with her throughout her life—she always kept a camera close by, ready to capture special moments of her family or a quilting project she so enjoyed.

Jane was a skilled quilter and seamstress, creating beautiful pieces that will be treasured by her family. Jane found simple pleasure in watching the ships travel along the St. Clair River.

Jane held a special place in her heart for many dear friends and extended family, including the Bone family, the Roscoe family, the Krebsbach family, and the Gonyou family. Their friendships brought her great joy over the years, and she treasured the time, memories, and laughter they shared together.

In her later years, Jane was a resident of Park Street and the Wallaceburg Retirement Home, where she was cared for with kindness and compassion. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff for their devotion, patience, and the many smiles they shared with Jane each day. Their care and support brought comfort not only to Jane, but to her loved ones as well.

Jane will be remembered for her strength, kindness, craftsmanship, and her deep love for family. Jane’s presence will be greatly missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg (519-627-3231). If you wish to make a donation in her memory, please consider Chatham-Kent Hospice.
