Jason Debuck running in Wallaceburg, Rhonda Jubenville seeking re-election in North Kent, Nelson Burm running for mayor

Voters will go to the polls for the first time since 2018 to elect their Chatham-Kent Council representatives in Wallaceburg.

Jason Debuck filed his nomination papers on Thursday, May 7, 2026 and will be running for one of two Council spots in Ward 5.

Debuck joins David Hyatt and Brendan Authier on the ballot in Wallaceburg.

Both of Wallaceburg’s current Councillors, Carmen McGregor and Aaron Hall, were both acclaimed in the 2022 election, as no other candidates ran against them.

Both Hall and McGregor have stated publicly they won’t be seeking re-election.

If Debuck, Hyatt and Authier keep their names in contention through the Friday, Aug. 21, 2026 deadline, an election will be assured in Ward 5.

Meanwhile in North West Kent, incumbent Councillor Rhonda Jubenville officially filed her nomination papers on Thursday. She’ll be seeking the lone spot on Council representing Ward 4, as will Kirk Hooker and John Cummings.

The mayoral race added another name on Thursday as well, as Nelson Burm filed his nomination papers.

Burm joins West Kent Councillor Lauren Anderson and Chatham Councillor Michael Bondy in the quest to become Chatham-Kent’s next mayor.

Also on Thursday, Sheila Moir-Martin filed in North West Chatham, Larry Hutchins filed in North East Chatham and Andy Fisher filed in South Chatham.

The Municipal Election is Monday, October 26, 2026.
