Search continues for missing individual after Lake Huron water emergency at the Pinery

OPP officials allege: The Ontario Provincial Police continue coordinated search efforts for an individual reported outstanding following a water emergency at Pinery Provincial Park involving a raft carrying five people in Lake Huron.

Police said the incident occurred May 18 at approximately 3 p.m., when members of the Lambton OPP, Lambton Shores Fire and Emergency Services, and Lambton County Emergency Medical Services responded to the area.

According to police, four individuals were able to get to safety and were not injured, while one person remains outstanding.

The Lambton OPP, OPP Aviation Services, the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre continue coordinated search efforts in the area.

“At this time, there are limited updates available as the investigation and search efforts continue,” police said in a release. “Additional information will be released when appropriate.”

“The Lambton OPP recognizes the impact this incident has had on the individuals involved, their loved ones, first responders, and the broader community, and continues to thank the public for their patience and support as search efforts continue,” the release stated.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Lambton OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), where callers may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
