Sarnia man wins $4.5-million ‘Catch the Ace’ jackpot after 45-week draw (Video)

A Sarnia man has won more than $4.5 million after the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62’s Catch the Ace fundraiser ran for 45 weeks before someone finally drew the ace of spades.

The Legion announced that Ashley Norton, described as a lifelong Sarnia resident who works at the Imperial Sarnia site, took home the jackpot. The weekly draw totalled $210,266.50, on top of a progressive jackpot of $4,301,705.50, bringing Norton’s total winnings to $4,511,971.50.

“Congrats Ashley Norton!” the Legion said in its announcement.

Imperial Oil also congratulated its colleague following the win. “Congratulations to our Imperial colleague Ashley Norton – the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 Catch the Ace $4.5M jackpot winner! We’re so happy for you, Ashley!” the company said.

The Catch the Ace fundraisers saw participants buy tickets for a chance to draw a card from a shrinking deck, with the jackpot growing each week until someone drews the ace of spades. The Sarnia Legion’s fundraiser ran for 45 weeks before the winning draw was made on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
