Sarnia Police Service officials allege: Two Sarnia residents are facing drug trafficking charges after police seized more than 1.8 kilograms of cocaine during a search of a home on Cromwell Street.
The Sarnia Police Service Drug Unit concluded an investigation on June 3 with the execution of a search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Shortly after 4 p.m., members of the Sarnia Police Service Emergency Response Team entered the residence and arrested two people. A search of the home resulted in the seizure of approximately 1,861 grams of cocaine, nearly $35,900 in Canadian currency and digital scales.
The two accused, both 38 years old and from Sarnia, have been jointly charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
One of the accused was held for a bail hearing, while the second was released on an undertaking with a future court date.
Police estimate the street value of the cocaine at approximately $186,000, based on a potential retail value of $100 per gram. Authorities noted that kilogram-level prices typically range between $28,000 and $34,000.
The Sarnia Police Service is asking anyone with information about illegal drugs or drug-related crime in the city to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
