Wallaceburg library launches summer reading program for children

The Wallaceburg branch of the Chatham-Kent Public Library is inviting children to take part in its Summer Reading Program, which begins June 26.

The free program is designed to help children stay engaged with reading during the summer months while encouraging lifelong literacy habits and helping prevent learning loss between school years.

Children who register for the program can spin a prize wheel and earn ballots for prize draws. Registration will remain open throughout the summer.

The library will also offer a variety of free activities and events for children aged 12 and under, including a Baby and Toddler Rave, DIY tote bag decorating, a sew-your-own freezie activity, Summer BINGO and Ocean Slime.

Additional Stay and Play programs will feature themes such as Shark Week, KPOP Demon Hunters, Superhero Training and STEM activities.

Library officials said the Summer Reading Program provides a fun and engaging way for children to stay active readers while school is out.

The Wallaceburg branch is also offering summer reading programs for teenagers and adults. A full schedule of programs is available through the Chatham-Kent Public Library’s online program calendar.

Library staff said they look forward to welcoming families throughout the summer season.
